The Civil Aviation Rule states:

(b) Senior commercial pilot, commercial pilot, private pilot – day
flight:
A person who holds a senior commercial pilot licence or a

commercial pilot licence must not act as pilot-in-command of an aircraft on
an air operation during the day, and a person who holds a senior commercial
pilot licence or a commercial pilot licence or a private pilot licence must not
act as pilot-in-command of an aircraft carrying a passenger during the day,
unless (subject to paragraph (g)), within the immediately preceding 90
days,—
(1) the person has carried out (as pilot-in-command of an aircraft or
an approved synthetic flight trainer of the same type) not less
than 3 take-offs and 3 landings during the day; or
(2) the person has satisfactorily demonstrated to an appropriately
qualified Category A or B flight instructor competence in takeoff
and landing manoeuvres during the day in an aircraft of the
same type; or
(3) the person has satisfactorily demonstrated competence for the
issue of the appropriate pilot licence in accordance with this
Part, in an aircraft of the same type.

A quick scan of my logbook tells me that I am fast becoming not current, so I'm going to book some solo time as soon as my finances allow. I think next Wednesday will be the 90 day limit when I last flew a Piper PA28, and 7 days after that will be the last time I flew a C172, despite spending a couple of hours in the right seat over the past month.

Three daytime takeoffs and landings in both types I am rated in shouldn't take me too long to do, and I am itching to get back into the air again. Mind you, recently the weather has been completely rotten for visual flight. Who knows how long it will be before I can get airborne again?

Yeah. As I said to someone else today.. you need three things: Pilot, Aircraft and Weather. Oh yeah - you need all three at the same time...!

I'm hoping for a reasonable monring here in Wellington - I'll take a half day at work [my boss has OK'ed it!] and go fly in the morning. Also a good time to practice for the BFR in July...!

Hi Evan!

Thanks for the kind words.

Yak? I don't see any photos of indigenous Mongolian cows on my blog. ;-)

Yes if the weather permits I'll be going on the White Island trip, camera in hand.
